Monday, March 16, 2015
As part of the Seafood Expo North America, The Economist hosted this breakfast panel to explore challenges and progress on meeting growing global food demand through sustainable fisheries. The world’s oceans present an exciting frontier for development and growth, especially as the world's population, predicted to exceed 9.3 billion by 2050, is placing significant pressure on global food supply. Charles Goddard, Editorial Director, Asia Pacific, The Economist Intelligence Unit chaired the panellists Amund Drønen Ringdal, Deputy Minister fisheries, Norway; Dr Dorothy Maxwell, Director, The Sustainable Business Group; Michael Rubino, Director, Office of Aquaculture, NOAA and Ricardo Garcia, Co-chair, Global Salmon Initiative and CEO, Camanchaca. The economic conditions, new technologies and innovation in both wild fisheries and aquaculture were discussed.
